Finding Opportunities beyond my industry
I attend a lot of events, to the point I could network professionally. Why do I do it? Because I love to meet new and interesting people, I believe there is opportunity everywhere. And I "create my own luck," by being in the right spaces :) Despite having a beauty Ecommerce startup, the most interesting people and opportunities I've found were not in spaces exclusively for beauty, rather in spaces in tech, panel discussions, business discussion, meeting people at parties, professional networking spaces, and traveling. So how did I discover the WI-FI NOW 2017 ?
WI-FI 2017 Conference Story
I spend a lot of time on Facebook, not only for business and seeing what my friends are up to, but looking for opportunities and events to attend. And about 2 weeks ago as I was scrolling I saw thiscontest promoting the WI-FI NOW APAC 2017 posted on WebMob Digital Facebook page. They wrote a short post about giving away tickets, 3-Day Gold Pass (value at $1,115) to this upcoming event, and all people had to do was write what speaker or topic he or she was most excited about and those with the best comments would win the golden ticket! Now, when I saw this post, I immediately went to the main event page, checked out the speakers, and wrote which speaker I was excited to see, why, and how it connects to my industry. And after posting I checked every hour to see if anyone else posted a comment. About 2 days later, no one posted, so I asked in the comment section since I was the only one that posted, if I won? And, I did!
My Experience at the WI-FI NOW Conference
The overall conference was interesting, very technical, global in the sense of how far many speakers and guests travelled to attend (US, Brazil, Middle East, all across Asia), and my only disappointment was that there was not many women attending nor speakers at the event :/ Aside from that, I really enjoyed the talks about WI-FI, learning about how companies exchange free WI-FI for users data, monetising WI-FI, empowering cities with WI-FI, and many other topics that got a bit too technical for me. What I really enjoyed about the conference was the lunch (and of course the desserts for those that know me, I'm quite a dessert snob) because that was where I met and talked to many interesting people. In fact, I had lunch for 2 days of the conference days with a group of gentleman from Portugal, Israel, and Taiwan. And what's even more interesting was that the Portuguese gentleman, based in Singapore, had a small business in cosmetics, focused on mineral water that is beneficial for the skin, hair, and nails. Attending this conference, I didn't have any expectation I would meet anyone in the cosmetic industry but I knew being in the right environment it would improve my chances for meeting new and interesting people!
There you go ladies and gentleman, that is my story! Stay tuned as I write about attending the Blockchain World Conference. And thank you WebMob Digital for sharing this event and opportunity!
